About Technology for Change

Technology for Change (TfC) is a nonprofit organization, based in China, that develops web and software systems to support social equity and human development.

We believe that there is great opportunity and scope to leverage computer and internet technology to deliver creative, sustainable and culturally appropriate tools for the public good. It is important that all of technology's potential benefits, from improved efficiency and instantaneous communication to knowledge sharing and community building, are shared by all and do not merely serve the interests of a privileged few.

TfC's work is volunteer-based, and utilizes open source components wherever possible. We are passionate about our work, and adhere to high standards of usability, reliability and maintainability.

Past Projects

Launched in late 2010, HIV Resource China was a free online service aimed at health workers and community-based organizations in China. It provided a platform for NGOs at the national level to promote and distribute their publications to local health workers, with the goal of addressing many of the logistical issues which have long contributed to an "information gap" between national agencies and health workers at the community level. Sadly, uptake was inadequate to sustain the service, and it was closed in September 2011.

Between April 2009 and February 2011, TfC also maintained the China Nonprofit Technology Blog as a way to promote the sharing of knowledge and best practice in this field. During the period it was active, this is the only English-language news source focusing exclusively on the use of technology in the Chinese nonprofit sector, providing the global community with a unique window into this fast developing aspect of Chinese civil society.
